The National Championships

The Quiz Club National Championships boost confidence, broaden knowledge and encourage great team work but above all are fantastic fun for your pupils and their supporters.

We run three national championships annually with the details of each below.  All of our championships follow the same format with area heats, which last for one hour, at venues across the country during school term time in addition to the option for schools to take part remotely from their own classroom or hall.

Taking part at one of our venues

Each Area Heat is hosted by a professional Quizmaster with team members using a personal wireless handset to select their answers with the team members encouraged throughout to confer with the rest of their team before selecting their individual answers.  The show is projected to a huge screen with instant on screen scoring making it thrilling entertainment, very much like a television gameshow.

The Area Heat comprises 40 multiple choice questions with a wide range of difficulty levels and teams confer on and answer every question using their handsets. The experience is incredibly exciting for both the teams and the audience.  The Quizmaster includes a great deal of additional information around the questions which participants absorb, broadening and improving their knowledge throughout the competition.

The winning team at each Area Heat is awarded a plaque for their school and badges for the team. All contestants receive a certificate to mark their achievement in representing their school in the championship.  The winning team then moves on to the National Finals.

Taking part in a live online area heat remotely from your school - how does this work?

We also have the option for schools to take part in a live online area heat remotely from their own hall or classroom.  Players in the team use a mobile phone, tablet, PC or laptop to act as their team handset, which is linked in to the online event.  There is no software to download.  All that is needed is a steady internet connection and setting up and registering the device/s for the team/s takes just a few minutes.  The quiz can be held in a hall, classroom or IT suite where there is a computer attached to a whiteboard or projector so the quiz can be seen clearly by all the participants.  This computer should also have speakers so your team/s can hear the Quizmaster presenting the show.  This is the main computer the quiz runs on and then each team has a separate device (mobile, laptop, PC or tablet or a mixture of any of these) to use as their handset.

For those schools that do not have the devices available for the children to use as handsets, we offer the option of paper and pen - in this case, schools can pre-download answer cards for the players on their team/s before the online heat.  The children watch the online heat and select their answer on their sheets instead.  At the end of the heat the teachers are given some time to mark the sheets and submit their team results to us via our website.

For the online Area Heat schools may download certificates to award their pupils and the top scoring teams are invited to the National Finals.

Selecting your teams

After registering for the Championship, schools receive their password to access the automated team selection quizzes we provide to run in their classrooms for all children within the appropriate year group.  With the fun of the contest starting in the classroom, schools are able to involve all pupils in the team selection process.  Places on the school teams are hotly contested and the children chosen as a result of the team selection process move on to represent their school in the Championship.

Schools also receive 4 practice quizzes narrated by our Quizmaster for your team/s to play. The practice quizzes include tips on strategic voting and the process of elimination and are fantastic for the team/s to play before they take part in the Area Heat.

The National Finals day

The National Finals of the Championships will be held during the Summer Term.  In light of the current restrictions on large scale events, we will wait until nearer the time to confirm whether the Finals will be online of will be at a West End theatre as originally planned.

Additional Options

All schools are provided with team selection quizzes as part of their entry which they run themselves but many schools have asked if we could run their team selection process at their school with the event doubling up as an Inter-House Competition which includes all of the children playing in live quiz events using the wireless handsets and presented by our Quizmaster.

We are always delighted to do this and can run these events for Science, General Knowledge or Maths.  We also provide a plaque to your winning house overall. The cost of an event such as this is £600 + vat for a half day (8am – 12pm or 1pm – 4pm) or £800 + vat for a full day.
