THE NATIONAL MATHEMATICS CHAMPIONSHIP - KEYSTAGE 2

The National Mathematics Championship is an exciting way to challenge your pupils’ mathematical ability, speed and mental agility whilst offering schools a unique platform for their most able young mathematicians to showcase their abilities

Challenging your teams to solve quick fire calculations, use logical thinking to work out more complex problems, testing and extending their knowledge of time, measurement, money, fractions, decimals, percentages, statistics, geometry and algebra all within an environment that is very exciting and great fun.

With more than 400,000 Keystage 2 children taking part each year the

Quiz Club National Championships are the largest Inter-School competitions in the country.

THE MATHEMATICS CHAMPIONSHIP

The National Mathematics Championship reinforces team work and boosts confidence, testing mental dexterity, accurate question comprehension and speed of calculation.  By selecting your team/s using the team selection quizzes we provide, you can involve as many children as you wish making the team selection process fun and educational for a large number of your pupils.

THE AREA HEATS

We run area heats, which last for one hour, at schools across the country during school term time hours and the Area Heats for the Mathematics Championship all run during the Summer Term.

Each Area Heat is hosted by a professional Quizmaster with team members using a personal wireless handset to instantly select their answers, although the team members are encouraged throughout to confer with the rest of their team before selecting their individual answers.  The show is projected to a huge screen with instant on screen scoring making it thrilling entertainment, very much like a television gameshow.

The experience is incredibly exciting for both the teams and the audience.  The Quizmaster includes a great deal of additional information around the questions which participants absorb, broadening and improving their knowledge throughout the competition.

THE QUIZ FORMAT

The quiz comprises 40 multiple choice maths questions covering areas such as mental arithmetic, measurement, time and money, geometry, algebra, logic, number patterns, place and value, fractions, decimals, percentages and statistics. There is a wide range of difficulty levels and teams confer on and answer every question using their handsets.

The winning team at each Area Heat is awarded a plaque for their school and badges for the team. All contestants receive a certificate to mark their achievement in representing their school in the championship.  The winning team moves on to the National Finals.

TEAM COMPOSITION

The National Mathematics Championship is open to children in Keystage 2. Each team consists of 4 players all of whom must come from keystage 2 but can be any mix of year groups.  Schools may enter multiple teams into the Championship. There are seats available for supporters to come along and cheer on their team.

SELECTING YOUR TEAM/S

After registering for the Championship, schools receive their password to access the team selection quizzes to run in their classrooms for all keystage 2 children in order to select the school team/s.

We include 4 maths practice quizzes narrated by our Quizmaster. The practice quizzes include tips on strategic voting and the process of elimination and are fantastic for the team/s to play before they come to the Area Heat.

With the contest starting in the classroom, schools are able to involve all pupils in the team selection process. Places on the school teams are hotly contested and the children chosen as a result of the team selection process move on to represent their school in the Championship.

MOVING THROUGH THE CHAMPIONSHIP

We have a range of Area Heats to choose from.  There are heats outside of London that are composed of 12 - 20 teams and our 'Super Heats' in London in very large venues that can accommodate up to 60 teams.

A number of teams scoring the highest at their area heat will go through to the National Finals which will be held at the magnificent Dominion Theatre in London's West End during the Summer Term.  The amount of teams moving on to the Finals depends on the size of the heat. One team will go through from a 12 team heat, 2 teams from a 20 team heat and 5 teams from the 60 team super-heats. There will also be a number of additional places awarded at the National Finals to the highest scoring non-qualifying teams remaining from across the heats.

THE COST OF ENTRY INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

The entry fee into the Championship is £120 + vat which includes the team selection and narrated practice quizzes that we provide you with and one team from your school taking part in the Area Heat.  This cost covers your team right through the Championship, no matter how far they progress.   Schools may have multiple teams taking part and the entry fee for each additional team is £120 + vat.

WE CAN RUN YOUR TEAM SELECTION PROCESS AND DOUBLE IT UP AS AN INTER-HOUSE COMPETITION

All schools are provided with team selection quizzes as part of their entry which they run themselves but many schools have asked if we could run their team selection process at their school with the competition doubling up as an Inter-House Competition which includes all of the children at their school or from specific year groups playing in live quiz events using the wireless handsets and presented by our Quizmaster.  We are always delighted to do this and can run these events for Science, General Knowledge or Maths.  We also provide a plaque to your winning house overall. The cost of an event such as this is £600 + vat for a half day (8am – 12pm or 1pm – 4pm) or £800 + vat for a full day.
